Aviation Technologies Ambassadors

The Aviation Technologies Ambassadors offer many opportunities to get involved, not only in their organization but in the Aviation Technologies Department.

Detail Dawgs

Detail Dawgs is a competitive aviation maintenance team. The team attends two annual competitions, where they compete in timed maintenance competitions.

Women in Aviation

This student organization is to promote Women in Aviation. The Saluki Aviatior chapter is chapter number 100.  Women in Aviation plays an active role in the community. They run a program for kids called "Girls in Aviation" in the fall where they introduce young women to aviation. Members also attend the annual Women in Aviation Conference.

Alpha Eta Rho

Alpha Eta Rho is a professional, co-ed fraternity founded to bring together students having a common interest in the field of aviation.

Aviation Management Society

The Aviation Management Society is dedicated to bringing it's members the most up to date aviation information through guest speakers, industry news, and trips to aviation facilities nationwide.

NATIONAL GAY PILOTS ASSOCIATION

The National Gay Pilots Association is the largest organization of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and straight pilots, aviation professionals, and enthusiasts from around the world. Our members include recreational and commercial pilots, flight instructors, air traffic controllers, mechanics, airport managers, and other aviation professionals and enthusiasts from the United States and abroad.

Women In Aviation's Girls In Aviation Day
September 23, 2017

Saturday, September 23rd was Girls in Aviation Day around the country. The Saluki Aviators chapter of WIA has a very successful day with 23 girls coming out to explore the wonder that is aviation. We had four stations: sheet metal picture frames, bottle rockets, flight simulators, and a tour of the airport.


Wings Over Southern Illinois Fly-in
September 30, 2017

The Aviation Technologies Ambassadors' Wings Over Southern Illinois Fly-In was held at the Southern Illinois Airport. There were tours of the airport, Discovery Flights and Young Eagles Flights, Helicopter Flights, and some delicious food provided by the Haute Wheels food truck. Around 400 people showed up for the event and pilots flew in from neighboring airports to join in on the festivities. Thank you to all of the hardworking volunteers that came out and helped make the day a success!


Special Olympics Illinois, Law Enforcement Torch Run: Plane Pull, October 7, 2017

Special Olympics Illinois and the Law Enforcement Torch Run have partnered with the Southern Illinois University School of Aviation to host the 2nd annual Southern Illinois Plane Pull on October 7, 2017 at the Southern Illinois Airport in Murphysboro, IL.  The Plane Pull features the ultimate man versus machine battle as teams of up to 10 play tug-of-war with SIU Aviation’s 737, weighing nearly 60,000 lbs.
