José R. Ruiz has been a faculty member with SIU for over 23 years. He is a former department chairman, and has also served as the department internship coordinator for the last 22 years. In addition, José served as the 2012-2013 President of the University Aviation Association (UAA). The UAA is an international professional association representing collegiate aviation. José is also the recipient of 2009 John K. Lauber National Aviation Safety Award and the 2015 V.L. Laursen National Teaching Award.
