2019 Karen Johnson Solo Scholarship

The Ninety-Nines are accepting applications for the $3,000 Karen Johnson Solo Scholarship to provide a young woman (age 16-20 at any time during the 2019 calendar year) with financial support for flight training through her first solo and beyond. The scholarship will be awarded at the 99s Aviation Appreciation Dinner at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI on July 23, 2019, www.99soshkoshdinner.com. Proof of financial need and financial information is not required. Additional information about how to apply for the scholarship and a scholarship flyer can be found at www.kjsoloscholarship.com. We get applications for this scholarship from many rising college freshmen who are enrolling in college aviation programs and just starting their flight training. In addition to entering freshmen, advanced students who don’t yet have a pilot license may be interested in applying for the Solo Scholarship.

Application deadline is July 1, 2019.


99s Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship Fund Scholarships

The Ninety-Nines offer aviation scholarships through local chapters and through the Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship Fund (AEMSF, an endowed trust fund of more than $5.5 million which provides significant scholarship aid to women pilots and student pilots. The Fund has awarded over 1,100 scholarships providing over $11.5 million in scholarship aid for initial ratings, advanced ratings, academic degree and Research Scholar Grants, helping hundreds of women achieve their aviation dreams.

Entering students, as well as advanced students, who don’t yet have a pilot’s license may be also be interested in applying for AEMSF Fly-Now Awards, semi-annual grants of up to $6,000 toward an initial pilot rating for women who are learning to fly. Since October 2013, AEMSF has awarded over 225 Fly Now Awards. For the spring 2020 Fly Now Awards, applicants need to join the 99s as student members by January 1 and submit their applications by April 1.  For the fall 2020 Fly Now Awards applicants need to join the 99s by July 1 and submit applications for the Fall Fly Now Awards by October 1. In addition to the Fly Now Scholarships, the AEMSF also offers scholarships to complete an additional pilot certificate, rating or pilot training course, including instrument, multi-engine, commercial, ATP, flight instructor, emergency maneuver training, tail wheel endorsements and all kinds of type ratings, including jet type ratings.  What is unique about these scholarships is that they cover the full cost of the training. Most of the scholarships in this group require prior membership in the 99s. The Fund also offers scholarships for college students majoring in aviation-related fields.

2019 CAE Entry Level Jet Scholarship

CAE, a worldwide leader in training for the civil aviation, defense and security and health care markets, will award up to FOUR entry level corporate jet aircraft training scholarships in 2019. These scholarships will be awarded to four different students from, or recent graduates of, University Aviation Association member institutions. The scholarship will include initial training in an entry-level corporate jet (the type of aircraft subject to schedule availability) resulting in a type rating upon successful completion of the course.

All applications must be recommended in writing by the UAA institution that the applicant now attends or has recently graduated. A letter or email message to the University Aviation Association (hello@uaa.aero) from the UAA institutional representative (department chair, or other administrator, or faculty member) is acceptable.

2019 Paul A. Whelan Aviation Scholarship

In the memory of an exemplary aviation educator, the Paul A. Whelan Scholarship was initiated by his family under the auspices of the University Aviation Association (UAA). The Paul A. Whelan Scholarship Fund supports men and women pursuing a future in aviation and/or space-related fields. The scholarship will provide opportunities to emerging aviation professionals to achieve their academic goals and contribute their talents to the aviation industry.

2019 Joseph Frasca Excellence in Aviation Scholarship

The Frasca family established this scholarship through the University Aviation Association (UAA) in the name of their son, Joseph Frasca. Joseph excelled as an undergraduate aviation student earning a reputation as a dedicated and competent scholar. His tireless efforts to promote and support aviation resulted in significant worldwide contributions to the industry and his abilities as an aerobatic pilot and ambassador of aviation provided many hours of enjoyment to thousands of people.

The Joseph Frasca Excellence in Aviation Scholarship was established through the University Aviation Association to encourage others to reach the highest level of achievement in their aviation studies. It is bestowed upon those who demonstrate a commitment and devotion to aviation in the tradition of Joseph Frasca.

2019 Eugene S. Kropf Scholarship

The University Aviation Association annually awards a $500 scholarship to applicants who are enrolled in an aviation-related curriculum at a UAA member college or university and have achieved sophomore status at the institution. Awards will be made to U.S. citizens without regard to gender, race, religion, or national origin.

Piedmont Airlines Scholarship for Flight Training

This scholarship provides financial support for men and women pursing a future in aviation. The scholarship will provide opportunities to emerging aviation professionals to achieve their academic goals and contribute their talents to the aviation industry.

Piedmont Airlines will award a $3,000 educational scholarship to one qualified student of a UAA member university this year. Becoming a pilot can be expensive and Piedmont Airlines wants to help by providing one deserving university student with a $3,000 scholarship through UAA.

2019 RAA Scholarship
